Friday 31st March, 7.45pm k/o
Brantingham Road, M21 0TT
Following a 1-1 draw earlier at Brookburn Road earlier in the season, West make the short trip to Maine Road FC for the second South Manchester Derby of the season. On the pitch, the lads will certainly be giving their all to make sure Stevie Settle’s boys bring home the three points – but they also need your support in the stands to make it happen.
Supporters will be congregating at Oddest Bar (Wilbraham Road, near Chorlton tram stop) from 5.30pm onwards on the evening of the game, and all are encouraged to join. From there, fans will be marching from the bar to the ground at 7pm – roughly a 10 minute walk.
At the ground, West fans have been asked to congregate in the sheltered stand by the dugouts, and it would be appreciated if supporters could stand together over the course of the game. Specifically, the club have asked that supporters wear their club colours with pride – scarves, hats and flags have all been encouraged, and there will be some merchandise on sale in the ground for anyone looking to buy on the day.
In addition, while Brantingham Road is usually ‘dry’, Maine Road have indicated that they will be running a can bar throughout the game – though we do not currently have any more details regarding that.
Supporter’s Club spokesperson Peter Jones said:
A derby brings local bragging rights and I, like all West fans, experienced this for the first time last season when Matty Kay entered the history books with his goal in our 1-0 win at Brantingham Road. The following Monday we wore our scarves with pride on the Metrolink, each of us thinking back to the whipped ball into the box and the superb finish into the roof of the net.
Watching that goal back I still expect the ball to flash over the bar as it takes an uneven bounce before reaching Kay, but every time Matty launches it into the goal wheeling away in celebration. At full time – as the players came and clapped the small army of fans who had made the walk from central Chorlton into deepest Whalley Range -supporters and players became one in a moment of absolute joy. I want that feeling again. Make us dream West
Bring your friends, bring your family, bring your pets – the countdown to kick off is on. See you tomorrow. Come on, West ⚪️ ⚫️
