The A Cappella Ultras songbook

On Saturday, the West Didsbury & Chorlton Christmas Miracle was sadly cancelled – the first time that the club’s annual event has fallen foul of the weather. Along with all the other festivities, at half time there was a scheduled performance by some of our own: The A Cappella Ultras. Marshalled by choirmaster Rich Stewart and his brother Tommy, they had penned songs that put a West twist on some festive classics. Due to the fixture list being unkind, they won’t have chance to give them an outing at Brookburn Road before December 25th. However, we’re happy to be able to publish them today for personal use – or to be sung on the terraces of one of our remaining away games in 2017. Come on, West!

Jingle Bells

Oh jingle bells, Settle’s swell, We all love Matty Kay.

Oh what fun it is to see Tom Bailey score today,

Oh jingle bells, Settle’s swell, We all love Matty Kay.

Oh what fun it is to beat Maine Road on Boxing Day,

We’re slipping down the league, but I think we’ll be okay

And even if we’re not, we’ll be a-laughin’ all the way

The alarm bells start to ring, they’re making tensions tight

What fun it is for us to see the West boys win tonight

Oh jingle bells, Settle’s swell, We all love Matty Kay.

Oh what fun it is to see Tom Bailey score today,

Oh jingle bells, Settle’s swell, We all love Matty Kay.

Oh what fun it is to beat Maine Road on Boxing Day,

Now the pitch is wide, so go move the ball along,

Let’s score some goals tonight, And sing this winning song;

Play a one-two now, or use Ben Steer’s speed

Then pass it to an open man and BANG we’ll take the lead.

Oh what fun it is to beat Maine Road on Boxing Day,

Settle Wonderland

Ultras sing, are you listening

At Brookburn Road, beers are glistening

A beautiful sight, we’re singing tonight

Walking in a Settle wonderland

Gone away are the old words

Here to stay are the new words

We sing a new song, Brockley sings along

Walking in a Settle wonderland

On the pitch the Ultras play some football

We can really knock the ball around

He’ll say, “Are you signed up?”

We’ll say, “No man”

But we can do a job, won’t let you down

Later on, we’ll retire

As we drink by the fire

To win home or away, the games that we play

Walking in a Settle wonderland

Ultras sing, are you listening

At Brookburn Road, beers are glistening

A beautiful sight, we’re singing tonight

Walking in a Settle wonderland

Gone away are the old words

Here to stay are the new words

We sing a new song, Brockley sings along

Walking in a Settle wonderland

On the pitch the Ultras build a snowman

And pretend that we’re not circus clowns

We’ll have lots of fun with Mister Snowman

Until the mini-ultras knock him down

Later on, we’ll retire

As we drink by the fire

To win home or away, the games that we play

Walking in a Settle wonderland

Walking in a Settle wonderland
